Walters Architects are proud to announce that we will be sponsoring an award for the best sketch or drawing by an undergraduate on the Architecture degree programme at Leeds Beckett University from 2021.

The prize is aimed at encouraging students to expand their sketching and drawings skills in order to explore creativity in a freer, more fluid manner rather than rushing to computer packages where the process can become rigid and sometimes creatively limiting.

Kevin Walters will be presenting the prize at the End of Year Show in July and whilst there will be no set agenda for the type of work being awarded he will be looking for creative and artistic solutions communicated through freehand expression.

Kevin graduated from the university, back when it was Leeds Metropolitan University before computer-aided design had really taken off and remembers all initial designs were first presented in sketch form before being hand-drawn in a larger, more formal format. We know things have moved on but we believe the basic communication tools should still be nurtured and encouraged.

We are very much looking forward to seeing the work and meeting the students; and will hopefully be kicking off with a presentation to announce the award in September or October of this year, COVID permitting.
